DENTON, Texas – North Texas volleyball signee, Amy Henard, has had quite a week. Last Wednesday she signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mean Green, and on Saturday she led Brock High School to its first ever UIL state title and was named Tournament MVP after a sweep of Schulenburg.
Henard, who is well on her way to a third straight Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State selection, led Brock to a 45-3 mark and wins in 20 straight matches.
Henard is the reigning District 10-2A Setter of the Year as well as an Academic All-District selection, but her biggest volleyball accomplishments have come on the club scene. Last year as the starting setter for TAV 17 Black, Henard led the club to an 82-3 record and the national title game runner-up finish at the USA Volleyball Junior National Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.
She is signing with a North Texas team coming off its first ever trip to the Sun Belt Tournament finals in its final season in the league. NT is moving to Conference USA in 2013. The Mean Green, which has a chance to tie the school record for wins in a season at 26 in the season finale at SMU on Wednesday, will lose only one senior to graduation in setter May Allen and returns a pair of First-Team All-Sun Belt selection – including SBC Freshman of the Year Carnae Dillard.
