Big Weekend for North Texas Nets Two C-USA Weekly Awards

Nov. 10, 2014

DENTON - After an impressive weekend for the North Texas volleyball program, which saw the Mean Green sweep both Conference USA heavyweight Rice and Big 12 metroplex rival TCU, junior Carnae Dillard and sophomore Amy Henard received weekly awards from the conference office. The awards mark the first time in program history that two Mean Green players have been awarded C-USA honors in the same week.

"What a great week for both players," head coach Andrew Palileo commented. "Carnae continues to develop her overall game and tries to get better each week."

Dillard picked up her fourth Conference USA offensive player of the week honor after racking up 44 kills on .288 hitting on the weekend. Her 21 kill performance in a 3-0 victory over TCU broke a North Texas Volleyball Center record for kills in a three set match. This is Dillard's fourth weekly award of the season, and the second time she has won the award in consecutive weeks.

"Amy has done a great job of making better setting decisions and is leading this team on the court," Palileo added.

Henard recorded an outstanding weekend performance in only six sets of action, totaling 89 assists and just one error en route to the Conference USA setter of the week award. Her 46 assists against power conference member TCU broke a North Texas record for assists in a three set match. The previous record of 43 assists was also held by Henard, set just a few days earlier against Rice in another 3-0 sweep. This is the second Conference USA weekly award in Henard's second year of play. She currently sits at fifth on the Mean Green all-time career assists list with 2,143 through 28 matches of her sophomore campaign.

"I am proud of how this team has played together this season," Palileo concluded. "I know Carnae and Amy will be the first to say that this is a result of a true overall team effort."

Dillard and Henard lead North Texas (19-9, 9-5 C-USA) and its seven game winning streak into a tough tilt with Conference USA leader UTSA (18-7, 14-0 C-USA) in Denton on Thursday night. The rematch with the Roadrunners will be the third of a four game slate of instate foes to finish out the regular season.
