DENTON - (11/10/06) - The North Texas volleyball team signed two players to National Letters of Intent at the beginning of the early signing period. Brittani Youman of Tatum, and Amy Huddleston of New Braunfels will both join the Mean Green in 2007.
Youman, a 5-11 senior at Tatum High School, will bring her pedigree to Denton in 2007. The daughter of former NFL star Larry Centers, Youman was an outstanding two sport athlete in both volleyball and softball for the Eagles, earning all-district honors in 2003, 2004 and 2005 including Outstanding Blocker of the Year for District 16-3A in 2005. She was also recruited by schools such as Auburn, Memphis, Louisiana Tech and North Florida.
The Mean Green will also add Amy Huddleston from New Braunfels High School. Huddleston, a 5-11 middle blocker/outside hitter, was named MVP of the UIL State Tournament in 2005 after helping lead the Lady Unicorns to a state title. She finished with 24 kills for the tournament, including 18 against Lewisville Hebron in the final. In 2006 she registered 98 blocks and averaged 4.02 kills per game on a .482 attacking percentage in helping put the Unicorns at the top of the state rankings for the majority of the season. She was also recruited by Texas State as well as several other schools in the state.
NT will lose two seniors Brittney Gregory and Tara Hooser off of this year’s team that has posted 21 wins to date.
The Mean Green will try to notch its 22nd win Saturday when it hosts Denver. The winner of the match clinches at least a share of the Sun Belt’s West division crown.
