DENTON (11/6/05) -- The North Texas volleyball team (12-17, 6-5) cruised to a 30-21, 30-20, 30-20 victory over South Alabama (7-17, 1-10) on Sunday at the Snake Pit in a Sun Belt Conference West Division match.
The Mean Green swept the season series from USA and extended its winning streak against the Jaguars to eight matches. North Texas has swept its last three opponents to tie its longest winning streak of the year. The Mean Green has won nine consecutive games, its longest streak since recording nine straight during the 2003 season.
NT dominated most of the match, recording 44 kills on a .275 attack percentage in comparison to the Jaguars 39 kills on a .066 hitting percentage. The Mean Green also posted eight more blocks than the Jaguars and had four more digs despite attempting 20 fewer attacks.
Sophomore libero Jessica Hulsebosch posted a match-high 17 digs to break the school record for single-season digs with 474 to her credit. Sophomore Katy Prokof led the Mean Green offensively with a match-high 15 kills and also collected 10 digs to register her seventh double-double of the year.
Junior Tara Hooser finished the match with 12 kills, marking her fourth consecutive match with double-figure kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Bass handed out a match-high 38 assists and narrowly missed her sixth double-double with seven digs.
The Mean Green won its fourth straight match at the Snake Pit, giving the team a 6-4 home record on the season. NT has one home match remaining and if it can win will tie its second most victories at the Snake Pit over the last 11 seasons.
North Texas has eight 3-0 victories on the year and 39 all-time under head coach Cassie Headrick. The Mean Green has also swept the season series over two SBC West Division opponents this year and has 13 season sweeps against opponents in its own division since 2002.
NT’s 12 wins are five more than it had all of last year and ties its third most over the last six seasons.
The Mean Green will play its final home match of the season Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette and will close out the regular season with a match at UL Lafayette on November 13.
