DENTON (10/29/06) The Mean Green volleyball team won its eighth match in its last nine tries by sweeping Arkansas-Little Rock for the second time this season (30-20, 30-16, 30-18). With the win the Mean Green remains in at least a tie for first place in the SBC Western division.
Cassie Headrick watched as North Texas (19-11, 10-4) dominated the Trojans (12-19, 5-9) from the very start. NT hit over .400 in each of the first two games, finishing with a .367 hitting percentage for the match.
Katy Prokof led the Mean Green with 15 kills on 22 attempts. It was her most efficient match of her career as she finished with a career-best .636 attack percentage.
Ashley Bass put up her second consecutive double-double with 38 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Catherine Coffey added seven blocks and Brooke Engel put in seven more aces to add to her national leading total of 101.
The win marks the second consecutive win for Headrick against her former mentor, Van Compton, whom she coached under before coming to North Texas.
The Mean Green won’t get much of a rest as they will hit the road for a tour of Louisiana beginning Thursday at New Orleans. They will then travel to Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday before playing its final road match of the season against Louisiana-Monroe.
