DENTON, Texas – The Mean Green volleyball team entered last weekend without a Sun Belt road win and on the outside of the eight-team SBC Tournament, but thanks to Sarah Willey and Shelley Morton, turned both of those equations around.
Willey earned her fourth career SBC Player of the Week nod and Morton turned in her eighth double-double in league play to lift NT to wins at South Alabama and Troy. NT moved into the No. 6 position in the league standings.
Next up the Mean Green heads to the league’s most challenging weekend - at Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Both of those teams sit at 10-1 in SBC play after meeting in the 2010 Sun Belt Tournament finals (MTSU 3-1).
The Blue Raiders, the two-time defending league champs, have won 11 straight matches and boast the Sun Belt’s most accurate attack at .273 thanks to Oyinlola Oladinni and Ashley Adam’s combined 445 kills on .334 hitting.
The Hilltoppers aren’t far behind with a .262 team attack percentage, but lead the SBC with 14.15 kills per set. Melanie Stutsman leads the SBC with 10.81 assists per set.
