LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (10/26/02) Four North Texas players recorded double-figure kills to lead the Mean Green volleyball team (14-12, 8-1) past Arkansas-Little Rock (10-10, 6-3) 27-30, 30-24, 30-28, 30-28 in a Sun Belt Conference match Friday night.
The victory extended the Mean Green’s winning streak to a school-record tying seven matches. Indicative of the close scores, the two team’s hitting percentages were nearly the same. The Mean Green posted a .230 attack percentage, while the Trojans hit .222. However, North Texas got off 21 more attacks and in turn had 15 more kills.
“We beat a tough team tonight with teamwork,” said North Texas head coach Cassie Headrick. “For the second straight match we had four players finish with double-digit kills and Kristin Sheppard did a good job running our offense. We are playing as a team, believing in each other and coming together very nicely.”
The same four North Texas players that had double-figure kills in Friday’s victory over Arkansas State, had double-figure kills against UALR. Corina Marginas, who had 22 kills against ASU, recorded a match-high 20 kills against the Trojans. Tanya Samples and Brittney Gregory both had 14 kills and Jill Ruskowski recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Kristin Sheppard narrowly missed a rare triple-double with eight kills, 59 assists and 14 digs.
North Texas doesn’t have another match until Friday, Nov. 1, when it plays at South Alabama in a 7 p.m. match.
