DENTON (10/23/05) -- North Texas freshman middle blocker Catherine Coffey was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 2.17 blocks per game in two matches last week and helping lead the Mean Green to a victory over Florida International.
The Sun Belt Conference leader in blocks, Coffey recorded a combined 13 blocks in two matches last week (2.17 bpg). The Allen, Texas, native posted a career-high five blocks solos in three games against Oral Roberts and came back to record four block solos and four block assists in a three-game win over Florida International. Her eight blocks against FIU were just one shy of her career high and tied the fourth most by any SBC player this year.
Coffey now has 107 blocks this year, which are the most every by a NT freshman and the ninth most in school history for a single season. She also posted seven kills against ORU and six against FIU (.500 attack pct.) and had two digs against the Golden Panthers.
North Texas will play at Arkansas State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
