DENTON (10/22/07) The Sun Belt West Division leader Denver swept the North Texas volleyball team, 3-0, on Monday night at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
The Pioneers improve to 16-9 overall and 10-2 in the conference, while the Mean Green falls to 9-17 overall and 5-7 in the Sun Belt. North Texas has now lost three straight matches.
Denver came out hot, hitting .400 in the first game, and finished with an overall hitting percentage of .262. The Pioneers took the first two games, 30-24 and 30-17, and rallied in the third game, 30-28.
North Texas came back in the third game, holding a late lead, but was unable to hold off Denver. Senior Katy Prokof led the Mean Green with 13 kills and a .393 hitting percentage. The outside hitter just missed a double-double with nine digs. Senior Jessica Hulsebosch led the defense with 11 digs.
Junior Catherine Coffey posted seven kills and six total blocks. The Mean Green was strong at the net in the third game and outblocked Denver in the match, 11-4. In addition to her 31 assists, Heather Maddox also posted four block assists.
Brittani Youman provided a spark off the bench for the Mean Green in the third game. She tied a career high with two kills and posted a personal-best two blocks.
North Texas returns to action on Friday, Oct. 26 when it faces Arkansas State on the road.
