DENTON (10/20/06) With chants of “point green” abounding throughout the North Texas Volleyball Center, the Mean Green won their fifth match in a row as they swept the Troy Trojans (30-27, 30-18, 30-13) on Friday night.
North Texas (16-10, 7-3) finished with its second highest attack percentage with a .355 mark for the evening. The Trojans (8-19, 2-9) contributed to their own demise by dialing in 29 errors as opposed to only 11 for the Mean Green.
Ashley Bass finished with 37 assists for the match, putting her over the 1,500-assist mark for her career. Katy Prokof finished with 10 kills on 25 attacks and three others Tara Hooser, Brooke Engel, and Brittney Gregory- finished with at least eight kills.
Engel had one of her more efficient matches of the year as she had nine kills with no errors and added five more aces to her national-leading total (84).
Aubre Smith gave the Mean Green fits in the first game, putting in nine of her game-high 14 kills.
The Mean Green will finish up its five-game homes stand on Sunday when it hosts South Alabama at 1 p.m. The team will then go on the road to take on division rival Denver on Monday.
