DENTON, Texas - Sarah Willey can't be outdone - not even by herself. The North Texas volleyball libero followed up her second Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week award last week with another on Monday, vaulting the Mean Green further up the SBC standings in the process.
Willey tallied 65 total digs and an average of 5.0 digs per set in grabbing her third SBC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. The junior posted matches of 26, 25 and 14 digs, and even added 20 assists on the week. No other North Texas player has ever won three Sun Belt Player of the Week awards in a single season.
North Texas is now 7-2 in Sun Belt play and sits two matches up on Arkansas State for the West Division lead with seven regular season matches to go. Willey joins Izabela Kozon from Middle Tennessee as the only student-athletes to earn three POW awards.
North Texas will be back in action at the Mean Green Volleyball Center to take on Troy and South Alabama this weekend. NT faces Troy on Friday at 7 p.m. and South Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m.
