DENTON (10/14/06) The Mean Green volleyball teampicked up their third consecutive Sun Belt win Saturday night, sweeping Louisiana-Monroe 3-0 (30-17, 30-22, 30-21).
North Texas (14-10, 5-3) finished with its highest attack percentage (.318) since the win over Texas Southern. Coach Cassie Headrick’s group is now 13-0 on the season when they post a higher hitting percentage than the opponent.
Tara Hooser led in kills for the fourth consecutive match, finishing with 10 for the night. Senior, Brittney Gregory continues to be steady and finished with eight kills and five blocks.
The Warhawks (5-19, 2-5) entered the match boasting the fifth-highest aces per game mark in the nation and tallied six aces, including three by Megan Osborne. Ilima Sam Fong led the team in kills with seven.
Brooke Engel did not have much luck from the service line until the final game when she reeled off four consecutive aces to push her season total to 74, only two behind the single-season mark at North Texas.
The win was the first for Cassie Headrick against former assistant coach John Schmidt, who spent the past four years at North Texas before taking the head job at Monroe this season.
The Mean Green will wrap up a weekend set with a match against division-leading New Orleans on Sunday. The Privateers are coming off a dramatic five-game win over Denver in which UNO trailed 2-0 before rallying to win.
