DENTON (10/13/03) -- North Texas sophomore middle blocker Brittney Gregory (Klein, Tex.) was named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after leading North Texas to a 2-0 record with victories over New Orleans and South Alabama in league play last week.
While it is the first time Gregory has been named the league's player of the week, she is the second North Texas player to receive the honor this season and fourth to receive it over the last three years.
Gregory averaged 4.9 kills per game while hitting .569 for the entire week. She tied her career high for kills in a single match with 22 against New Orleans. She hit a career-best .688 against the Privateers, committing no errors in 32 attempts. Her .688 attack percentage is the 10th highest in school history.
Gregory averaged 4.0 kills per game against South Alabama, finishing with 12 kills on a .423 attack percentage. She piled up 34 kills, four block assists, four aces, three assists and three digs for both matches combined.
Now with 303 kills this year, she is just 16 shy of her kill total for all of last season. She needs 51 kills to take over 10th place at North Texas on the single-season kill list and her 619 career kills leaves her 75 shy of breaking into the top-10 career list.
