NEW ORLEANS, LA (10/10/03) Behind the strength of Brittney Gregory’s match-high 22 kills, the North Texas volleyball team (13-10, 4-1) won its second straight outing with a 3-1 (30-28, 30-19, 24-30, 30-23) road victory over New Orleans (7-12, 1-3) Friday night.
Not only did Gregory’s 22 kills tie her career-high, she posted a .688 attack percentage that ranks 10th all-time at North Texas for a single match. Gregory was one of three Mean Green players to record double-figure kills, joined by Corina Marginas with 17 and Jill Ruskowski with 14.
North Texas hit .262 as a team, while New Orleans posted a .171 attack percentage. The Mean Green gave up eight more blocks and three more aces to the Privateers, but had 11 more digs, 19 more kills and 17 more assists. North Texas failed to hit over .250 in only the third game, which also happened to be the only game New Orleans won.
Kristin Sheppard recorded 52 assists and 15 digs, both match highs, to post her 12th double-double of the year. Marginas and Ruskowski finished with double-doubles for kills and digs.
Jennifer Cruz led New Orleans with 20 kills, while Hillary Carr added 11 kills and six blocks.
North Texas remains on the road for a match against South Alabama on Sunday. The match is set to get underway at 1 p.m.
