DENTON, Texas - North Texas moved into the driver's seat of the Sun Belt's West Division with a pair of wins over the weekend. The Mean Green knocked off Louisiana-Lafayette in four sets followed by a sweep of ULM and now has the top record in the West at 11-8 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Now the Mean Green has to focus its attention on the Natural State, as Arkansas State and UALR will be gunning to knock NT off the top of the SBC West Division pile. Both Arkansas State and UALR have struggled of late, combining to drop eight of their last nine matches.
The Red Wolves, who have lost three of four, picked up a 3-1 win at Troy on Friday before falling in a five setter at South Alabama. ASU is hitting .124 as a team in Sun Belt play. UALR has lost each of its last five matches, and will face Denver on the road Friday. Currently in the middle of a five-match road swing, the Trojans fell at South Alabama and Troy last weekend. The Trojans rank second to last in the SBC in hitting percentage, kills and assists, and last in aces.
