MIAMI, Florida (10/6/06) The North Texas volleyball team dropped its third conference match of the season Friday after the Mean Green was swept in Miami by Florida International (30-28, 30-20, 30-24).
The Mean Green (11-10, 2-3) has now lost its last two matches, and four of its last six after a four-game winning streak to enter conference play.
The Golden Panthers (15-4, 7-0) are off to their best start in school history, and avenged a loss in Denton to the Mean Green from last season.
Tara Hooser and Katy Prokof each totaled 10 kills on the evening, tops for the team. Ashley Bass and Heather Maddox split time and combined for 29 assists.
Florida International was led by Olga Vergun with 19 kills and Arasay Guerra with a dozen of her own.
The Golden Panthers were much more efficient on the evening, finishing with a .264 attack percentage compared to .116 for North Texas. The Mean Green is now 1-10 on the season when they have a lower attack percentage.
The tour of Florida continues Saturday as North Texas takes on Florida Atlantic for the first time in school history. The team will then return to Denton before beginning a five-game home stand beginning with Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday.
