North Texas Concludes Homestand Friday Against UAB
Mean Green Have Won Last Three Meetings
DENTON - Looking to continue the best start in program history, the North Texas volleyball team concludes a four-game homestand Friday at 7 p.m. against UAB. Both teams enter the matchup with 3-1 records in Conference USA play.
The Mean Green (16-2, 3-1 C-USA) are 3-2 all-time against the Blazers (9-10, 3-1 C-USA) and have won the last three meetings. North Texas defeated UAB, 3-1, in Birmingham last season.
North Texas extended its home win streak to eight games after defeating Oklahoma, UT San Antonio and Louisiana Tech last week. The Mean Green downed the Sooners in straight-sets in front of a North Texas Volleyball Center record crowd of 719. After battling to a four-set victory over the Roadrunners behind Emma Eakin's 17 kills on Friday, the Mean Green swept the Lady Techsters on Sunday to pick up their third straight C-USA victory.
Against Oklahoma, Holly Milam became the first player in school history to amass 900 kills, 600 digs and 250 blocks in a career. She continued to rack up milestones last week as she compiled 32 kills at a .491 clip to pass Tara Hooser for 7th all-time in career kills (995).
The Blazers are winners of six of their last eight matches and join North Texas as the only two C-USA programs to have five players with at least 100 kills. Senior outside hitters Gabby Deshotel and Haley Jared each have over 200 kills, 10 aces, 100 digs and 30 blocks to make up a dynamic duo for UAB.
