Dillard Earns C-USA Weekly Honor For Third Time of 2015
Milestone Match Against Rice Good Enough To Be Named Co-Offensive Player of the Week
DENTON - Senior Carnae Dillard has earned her third Conference USA weekly award of the season, the league announced on Monday, as the outside hitter was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week alongside Southern Miss junior Stephany Purdue. It is the seventh time that the outside hitter has received the honor in her career.
While Dillard played in only one match last week, her 31-kill performance in a five-set win over Rice was good enough to gain attention. Her kill total leads all performers in the conference this year and it came on .310 hitting. Additionally, she added a match-high 20 digs to earn her 13th double-double of the season.
Dillard became only the second North Texas volleyball player to reach 2,000 career kills in Friday’s match, and she is the only active D-I volleyball player that can claim such an accolade. The San Antonio native leads C-USA and the NCAA in kills per set (5.34).
With Friday’s win, North Texas sits at 11-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play, forcing a tie for third place in the league standings. Dillard leads the Mean Green into two road contests this weekend, as the team will battle with Louisiana Tech on Friday before matching up with Marshall on Sunday.
