DENTON, Texas (10/03/08) The Mean Green volleyball team couldn’t keep the momentum going after a solid win over Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday, falling to Louisiana-Lafayette 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-17).
North Texas (3-12, 1-2 Sun Belt West) closed Thursday’s match with the Warhawks with two near-perfect sets, but couldn’t stay with the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-9, 1-2 Sun Belt West) just a day later.
A see-saw battle through two frames, North Texas grabbed a 21-17 lead in the second set before the Ragin’ Cajuns charged back. A four-point rally on Kendra Hall’s serve, capped off by a Lesley Mirarchi kill, dashed NT’s hopes of getting back into the match. ULL rolled in the third set that saw just nine Mean Green kills.
For the third time this season an opponent kept every Mean Green player under double-digits in kills and digs. A game Ragin’ Cajun squad out-hit North Texas 42-29 in kills led by Mirarchi’s 14.
Kati Dillard came to play for North Texas defensively with a team-high four blocks. The freshman leads the Mean Green with 39 blocks this year, and has posted seven straight matches with multiple blocks.
The Mean Green takes Saturday off before returning to action on Sunday against New Orleans. The match begins at 1 p.m. at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
