Hulsebosch Named Sun Belt Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

DENTON (10/4/04) -- North Texas freshman libero Jessica Hulsebosch (Spring, Tex.) was named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after tying the school record for digs in a match against Denver last week.

Hulsebosch helped lead North Texas to its second Sun Belt victory of the season, pacing the Mean Green defensively with a career-best 33 digs against the Pioneers. The 33 digs are the second most by a Sun Belt Conference player this year, tie the school record and are the most ever by a freshman at North Texas.

Hulsebosch came back to record 19 digs against New Mexico State, giving her 52 digs for the entire week. She averaged 6.5 digs per game, more than the Sun Belt’s current leader is averaging in the stat. Hulsebosch leads the Mean Green in digs this season with 197 to her credit, enough to place her eighth in the conference.

The defensive standout has recorded double-figure digs in a team-best nine matches this season, including two matches with at least 20 digs.

North Texas, 2-2 in Sun Belt play this season, plays eight of its final 14 matches at home. The Mean Green will host South Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. and New Orleans on Saturday at 1 p.m.
