DALLAS (10/1/03) The North Texas volleyball team (11-9) suffered a 3-0 (14-30, 23-30, 21-30) setback Wednesday night against SMU (11-4) at Moody Coliseum in a non-conference match.
Jill Ruskowski was the only player to record double-figure kills for the Mean Green, which finished with a .038 hitting percentage. Ruskowski tallied a match-high 12 kills and narrowly missed a double-double with eight digs.
SMU had three players record double-figure kills and hit .264 for the entire match. In games one and three, the Mustangs were able to open up a 13-3 advantage and didn’t let the Mean Green any closer than six the remainder of the either two games.
North Texas jumped out to a 7-0 advantage in game two, but ended up dropping the game by seven. The Mean Green led 14-9, but gave up a 10-2 run to SMU at that point and couldn’t recover.
Stephanie Connors led North Texas defensively with 12 digs, while Kristin Sheppard finished with 10. The Mean Green, who entered Wednesday's match leading the Sun Belt Conference in digs, recorded 55 digs for the match.
North Texas hosts New Mexico State on Friday in a 7 p.m. Sun Belt Conference match.
