North Texas Travels To UTSA For First Conference Road Match
Mean Green Looks To Build Off Victory
DENTON ¬¬– After capturing its first Conference USA victory of the season Sunday, North Texas opens a three-match conference road trip Friday at 6:00 pm in San Antonio against the Texas San Antonio Roadrunners.
The Mean Green (7-10, 1-1 C-USA) face the hottest team in the conference. UTSA (10-3, 1-0 C-USA) is riding a seven-game winning streak and defeated Southern Mississippi in straight sets in its most recent match. Friday’s match will conclude a five-match home stand for the Roadrunners.
North Texas defeated its last opponent, Florida International, in straight sets at home on Sunday. Led by freshman Emma Eakin’s 17 kills and .500 attack percentage, the Mean Green bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Southern Miss two days prior. For her effort, Eakin was named C-USA’s Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Through their two conference matches, Eakin leads the team with 27 kills. Not far behind is overall season leader Amanda Chamberlain who in conference has boasted a .556 attack percentage. Against the Panthers, North Texas changed its lineup putting senior Amy Henard in the libero position, her first time this season to play the position. Henard had six digs, one kill and one service ace in the match.
North Texas has defeated the Roadrunners in its last two meetings. Friday will be the 26th time the two schools have met.
Before returning to Denton, the Mean Green will travel to Louisiana Tech and University of Alabama Birmingham to finish the road trip.
