Quick Hits:
  • North Texas is coming off their first loss in a conference opening weekend since 2011. Prior to the loss, the Mean Green had only lost 7 other opening weekend matches throughout the last decade.
  • Rice swept Southern Miss on the road to open C-USA play before falling to conference favorite Western Kentucky on the road in five sets. The Owls were down 0-2 before storming back to force a fifth and deciding set. Rice pushed WKU to brink, holding a match point and extending the fifth frame, however, they were unable to complete the comeback.
  • HC Genny Volpe has led Rice to the program's best 16-match start (11-5) since 2009, when the Owls went 23-9 and recieved a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Mean Green was selected to finish fourth in the Conference USA Preseason poll, just behind Rice at the third slot.
  • The Owls lead the all-time series 7-3. However, North Texas knocked off Rice on the road at Tudor Fieldhouse in their last meaning, 3-1, in 2013. It was the first time the Mean Green defeated Rice since 1997.
