North Texas Volleyball Struggles At UL Lafayette

Lafayette, La. (9/30/01) - Unable to mount much offense, the North Texas volleyball team (6-9, 1-3) suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of UL Lafayette on Sunday in a Sun Belt Conference match.

North Texas only had one player record double-figure kills as it posted a season-low hitting percentage of .035. The Ragin’ Cajuns, on the other hand, posted a .281 hitting percentage and swept the Mean Green by scores of 30-27, 30-20 and 30-18. North Texas swept UL Lafayette earlier this year, but the roles were reversed in the second meeting as the Ragin’ Cajuns were able to even the 2001 series record at 1-1.

Sophomore outside hitter Corina Marginas (Brasov, Romania) led North Texas with 12 kills. Brieanne Fowler (So.; OH; Odessa, Tex.), UNT’s second-leading attacker, was held to just seven kills on the day. Kristin Sheppard (So.; S; Texarkana, Tex.) only had 23 asssists, but tallied a double-double with a team-high 10 digs as well.

The Ragin’ Cajuns had three players record double-figure kills in the match, led by Clarice Laires match-high 15.

The Mean Green remain on the road next weekend, playing at South Alabama on Friday in a 7 p.m. match and at New Orleans on Saturday in a 3 p.m. match. Both USA and UNO compete in the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference.
