DENVER (9/26/09) - Amy Huddleston posted a team-high 11 kills, but it wasn't enough in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) loss at Denver in the Sun Belt opener on Saturday night.
The Pioneers (6-9, 1-0 Sun Belt) countered with 14 kills from Emmy Davidsmeyer and a dozen from Jordan Raines to top the Mean Green (4-11, 0-1). The two-time defending SBC West Division champions hit .281 on the evening, while holding NT to just .168.
North Texas had hoped to keep the momentum rolling from its five-set win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday. The Mean Green knocked off the Ladyjacks for the first time since 1995, giving NT wins in four of six matches.
NT registered seven blocks at Denver, marking a seventh straight match with at least six team blocks. Setter Kayla Saey was the biggest obstacle for DU, piling up a team-high four blocks to go with her 30 assists.
North Texas takes the rest of the weekend off before returning to action in the Pelican State. NT heads to ULM on Oct. 2, Louisiana-Lafayette on Oct. 3 and New Orleans on Oct. 4.
