Eakin Earns C-USA Freshman Of The Week Honors
Freshman Sets Two Career Highs Against FIU On Sunday
DENTON – After setting two new career highs over the weekend, North Texas middle blocker Emma Eakin earned Conference USA’s Freshman of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
“I’m excited for Emma,” head coach Andrew Palileo said. “We as a staff have really been challenging her to be better in every facet of the game, and this shows that she is beginning to understand what it takes to play at this level. We hope that her trajectory keeps moving up from here.”
The freshman logged double-digit kills in back-to-back matches for the second time this season, collecting 10 against Southern Miss and 17 versus FIU. Her 17 kills and .500 attack percentage in Sunday’s match were both new career highs for the Wichita Falls native.
Eakin led North Texas in kills and kills per set last week, tallying 31 kills in 10 sets, good for a 3.1 average. She also had her best defensive week for the Mean Green, recording seven blocks in three matches bringing her season total to 15.
North Texas volleyball hits the road for two conference matches this week. The Mean Green play UTSA on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m., then face Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Oct 2, at 1 p.m.
