ECU-MT Match Notes
Amy Henard has stepped up in a big way for North Texas when the Mean Green needed her most, and she was honored for her efforts this past week with the C-USA Setter of the Week award.
She is the only freshman on a squad that brought back almost its entire roster from last season, a record-setting year in Mean Green volleyball history. She has taken a leadership role, the setter position, which dictates the way a team plays on the court, and her laid back yet hard-working demeanor has allowed her to mesh with a close-knit unit off the court.
"Amy has done a great job of continuing to progress in our system," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "She is starting to understand how to run the system, and she has provided leadership on the court and put our hitters in a good position to take swings."
Only 16 games into her career, Henard is on the verge of cracking the top-10 all-time assists list in program history. She has averaged 11.09 assists per set this season and is the only player on the team to play in every set this season.
"Down the line, as she gets more comfortable, her leadership skills will continue to develop and her ability to elevate plays will only get better," coach Palileo continued. "By the end of the season, she will make this team her own, and provide the leadership we need out of her setting position."
You can catch Henard and the rest of the Mean Green volleyball team on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in Denton, as they open their first season of Conference USA play against East Carolina.
