DENTON, Texas – North Texas has won six of its last eight matches, and now heads into Sun Belt Conference play looking to defend its 2010 West Division title against FIU on Friday and Florida Atlantic on Sunday.

NT is 6-5 in Sun Belt openers, including last year’s 3-0 win over Florida Atlantic. At 9-6 on the year, North Texas is off to one of the hottest 15-match starts in school history. As a matter of fact, NT still has a chance to tie the 2003 squad for the most non-conference wins in the modern era at 10.

Led by Courtney Windham, NT finished second in its own Mean Green Volleyball Classic with wins over Jackson State and Kennesaw State. The sophomore averaged 5.0 kills per set for the weekend in leading the NT offense. Shelley Morton returned from a hand injury to earn all-tournament team honors along with Windham.

FIU is one of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt, boasting a five-match win streak and the league’s top block. The Golden Panthers average an SBC-high 2.42 blocks per set led by Sabrina Gonzales’ mark of 1.23.

Florida Atlantic’s 3-9 record is deceiving considering their tough non-conference opponents from the Big East (2), ACC, SEC and CUSA (2). Still, the Owls feature one of the Sun Belt’s top blocking units (2.12 BPS ranks 4th). Sara Stoll leads the way with 1.07 BPS.
