HUNTSVILLE, Texas (9/19/09) - Amy Huddleston's career-best efforts led the Mean Green volleyball team to a split in the final day of action at the Bearkat Classic.
The junior tallied 42 kills on the day, including a career-high 25 in the five set win over host Sam Houston State (19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-7). She wasn't too shabby against Lamar either, posting 17 kills on .289 hitting in the 3-0 loss (27-25, 25-19, 25-23) to the reigning Southland Conference champions.
For the weekend, Huddleston racked up 50 kills for an average of 4.55 per set. Always an accurate threat, she hit .248 with just 18 errors on 129 attacks in the tournament.
The Mean Green (3-10) hit over .200 against both opponents, but was able to dominate the net against Sam Houston (6-8). North Texas tallied 16 total blocks against the Bearkats, including a career-best 11 from middle blocker Kati Dillard. Sarah Willey led four NT defenders with 20 digs against SHSU.
Kayla Saey kept Lamar (5-7) of balance with a match-high 41 assists, but it wasn't enough. Huddleston and Brittany Brown were NT's biggest offensive threats with 17 and nine kills apiece, but 19 team attack errors undid the Mean Green, which lost the first and third sets by just two points.
North Texas returns to action on Tuesday against another Southland foe, Stephen F. Austin. Action from the Mean Green Volleyball Center tips off at 7 p.m.
