HATTIESBURG, Miss. (9/20/08) The Mean Green volleyball team took the opening set, but Central Florida proved too tough in a 3-1 loss to close out the USM La Quinta Invitational (22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21).
Amy Huddleston has been a model of consistency for the Mean Green (2-10), earning all-tournament team honors for a second straight week. She paced the Mean Green with 12 kills on .292 hitting, and in her last five matches Huddleston has lead NT with 57 kills on .284 hitting.
It was a career-best day for North Texas’ setter and libero as well. Kayla Saey earned her first start at setter and posted a season-best 42 assists, and Sarah Willey anchored the back line with a season best 23 digs.
Kati Dillard and the Mean Green blockers were out in full force. For the second match in a row Dillard tallied a season best in blocks, this time with eight against Central Florida (9-5). As a team North Texas had a season-high 13 total blocks.
North Texas returns home to open Sun Belt Conference play against Denver on Saturday at 7 p.m.
