DENTON, Texas – A match-high 12 kills from Courtney Windham couldn’t keep North Texas volleyball on pace with Texas State in a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-16) loss to open the Mean Green Volleyball Classic.
The Bobcats (7-5) hit .278 and used a 9-2 edge in total blocks to top the Mean Green (7-5). NT also gave Texas State back 27 attack errors and hit .099, which is the squad’s third lowest outing of the year.
The loss ends North Texas’ four-match winning streak after NT won the Islander Invitational last weekend.
North Texas had a great opportunity to even the match at a set apiece when it carved out a 20-13 lead in the second frame, but a 13-4 Bobcat run ended the set. Amari Deardorff led the Texas State offense with nine kills on .208 hitting.
The Mean Green will return to action on Saturday against Jackson State at 11 a.m. and Kennesaw State at 7 p.m.
