MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Powered by the nation’s No. 22 ranked block, the North Texas volleyball team will look to close out tournament play and give head coach Ken Murczek his 50th career victory.
The Mean Green entered the week averaging 2.78 blocks per set, which is good enough to be among the nation’s top 25. NT has already made school history with wins in two of its three tournaments this season, and is off to the fastest start ever by a Mean Green squad.
Courtney Windham is the squad’s unquestioned leader at the net, and ranks 13th nationally with 1.48 per set. Add in Windham’s 3.50 kills per set, which ranks 142nd in the NCAA, and you’ve got a pretty potent player that can make her stamp on a match.
She and her Mean Green teammates will be looking to get Murczek to the 50 win plateau this weekend. The third-year skipper is sitting at 47 wins in 81 total matches, and can be the quickest NT coach to 50 wins if he reaches that goal over NT’s next seven outings. The next fastest, Dolores Copeland (1976-78), reached her 50th win in 89 matches.
