OREM, Utah (9/12/08) The Mean Green volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match on Friday, falling to host Utah Valley 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) in their tournament opener.
Tonight was the first ever meeting between NT (1-6) and Utah Valley (1-5), and things went the Wolverines way from the start. UV jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and stayed in control for most of the match. North Texas led for a total of five serves during the entire match.
The Mean Green piled up 104 attacks to the Wolverines 94, but could only land .144 percent of those attempts. North Texas is hitting .129 on this five match losing streak, while its opponents have landed .267 percent of their attacks.
Once again, Roxana Casvean led the Mean Green offense with nine kills. The sophomore powered the Mean Green last weekend at the Oral Roberts Classic, earning all-tournament honors.
Salah Schoenecke and Breanne Owens led the defensive efforts with seven and six digs, respectively.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday afternoon versus Idaho State at 2 p.m.
