SAN MARCOS, Texas - The North Texas volleyball team flexed its defensive muscles in taking down Tennessee-Martin, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20), in the CenturyLink Premier finale on Saturday afternoon.
Sarah Willey landed a 16-dig effort, Kayla Saey tallied 13 and Ashlee Horvath added 11 to put an end to the Mean Green's (6-4) three-match slide. Tennessee-Martin (2-8) hit .095 on the day, NT's fourth opponent held under .100 on the year.
Amy Huddleston reached a significant milestone, topping 1,000 career kills with her team-high 11-kill outing. The senior is just the fifth player in NT history to reach 1,000 career kills.
The Mean Green front line did its part as well, sending back eight blocks, including five from Melanie Boykins. Saey wasn't far behind with four blocks of her own.
North Texas doesn't get much of a break as the squad heads to UT-San Antonio for an afternoon match against the Road Runners. Tip off from the Alamo City is slated for 1:30 p.m.
