FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (9/11/09) - The North Texas volleyball team was no match for Big XII foe Kansas in the opening match of the Arkansas Invitational on Friday night, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-20).
The Jayhawks (5-2) hit .324 as a team compared to just .061 for the Mean Green (0-8), and out-killed NT 44-27. The three-set loss snapped a streak of three straight 5-set matches, which narrowly kept North Texas away from its first victory of the season.
The Jayhawks simply didn't make mistakes against North Texas. KU committed just 11 attack errors, easily the least by a Mean Green opponent this year.
Amy Huddleston had one of the best performances by a North Texas player in years last weekend, and once again led the squad. The junior tallied five kills, which tied with Kati Dillard and Roxana Casvean for the team high.
North Texas excelled from the serving line with eight aces against KU, and newcomer Madison Barr paved the way with three - the most by an NT player this year.
Sarah Willey got the start at libero and led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
The Mean Green returns to action tomorrow with matches against Arkansas at 11 a.m. and Jacksonville State at 5 p.m.
