CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Eboni Godfrey landed a match-high 21 kills in helping the North Texas volleyball team end Towson’s eight-match win streak in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 28-26, 25-23).
A top-five performance in the Sun Belt this season, Godfrey’s outing led three Mean Green (6-4) players in double figures. Courtney Windham closed the match with her 13th and 14th kills and Melanie Boykins landed 12 kills on .385 hitting.
Trailing 20-15 late in the fourth set, Godfrey led NT on a 7-0 run with a pair of kills and blocks with Hallie McDonald. With everything knotted at 23, Windham closed the match moments later with a pair of tough kills.
Sarah Willey tallied 18 digs and Chrissy Johnson notched a season-high 15 digs. Hallie McDonald got behind a career-high six blocks.
North Texas can win their first tournament of the year, the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islander Classic, with a win over host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. today.
