Mean Green Set To Host Second Tournament of 2016
North Texas To Play Three Matches In Two Days
DENTON - Just a few days removed from its first road trip of the season, the Mean Green volleyball team will return to its home court looking to end its three-game skid with three matches in the North Texas Invitational.
The North Texas Invitational marks the third tournament in as many weeks for the Mean Green.
North Texas is slated to play two matches on Friday, Sept. 9. Match one is against Louisiana-Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. The Ragin' Cajuns head to Denton with a 1-7 record after falling to McNeese State on Tuesday. This will be the 35th meeting between ULL and North Texas, with the Mean Green leading, 25-9.
The Mean Green will return to action at 7:30 p.m. to challenge Indiana State. The Sycamores (4-2) are coming off back-to-back tournament championships in the Marriott Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., and the West Virginia Capital Classic in Charleston, W. Va.
The last match for the Mean Green is Saturday, Sept. 10, at noon against the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks. UNCW owns the best record of all teams in the tournament at 7-1, and are currently on a three-game winning streak.
North Texas has yet to compete against UNCW or Indiana State.
In the Palileo era, the Mean Green are 34-12 in home matches.
North Texas' offensive attack is bolstered by a quartet of players averaging over two kills per set. Holly Milam leads at 2.67 per set, followed by Amanda Chamberlain at 2.42, BrynCaitlin Walker at 2.28 and Alexis Wright at 2.26, respectively.
On the defensive side, LekaLeka Kiner-Falefa continues to pace the Mean Green in digs with 106. Wright (29) and Jordyn Williams (28) have both excelled in blocks for North Texas.
