ROCHESTER, Mich. (9/6/09) - North Texas volleyball fell in its third straight 5-set match on Sunday, dropping the Golden Grizzly Invitational closer to Wright State.
Amy Huddleston was named to the all-tournament team after knocking down a team-best 53 kills on 145 attacks, not to mention 41 digs in the three match tourney. With the loss, North Texas fell to 0-7 on the young season, its worst start since 2005.
North Texas picked up a close first-set win, 26-24, but couldn't hold off Wright State (5-1) in sets two and three. The Mean Green took set four thanks to a trio of kills from Kati Dillard and Brittany Youman, and forced a deciding game five.
That's when six attack errors from North Texas and .500 hitting from Wright State sealed the match in the fifth set.
The setter battle continues for the Mean Green with two tournaments in the books. Marelle Lepmets and Kayla Saey both put up exacty 73 assists in the tournament, although Lepmets had the higher average at 9.12 assists per set.
North Texas returns to action next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. in the Arkansas Invitational. NT faces Kansas on Sept. 11, as well as Arkansas and Jacksonville State on Sept. 12
