DENTON, Texas – After North Texas left the Southland Conference in 1995, the Mean Green and Stephen F. Austin have met on the volleyball court 10 times, and until recently the Lady Jacks have had little trouble with NT.
SFA took the first eight meetings in dominating fashion before the Mean Green’s Brittani Youman produced 13 kills to knock off their former conference mate in five sets back in 2009. Last season, the two produced one of the longest matches in NCAA history in Nacogdoches, playing a 39-37 marathon set that propelled SFA to an emotional win.
With raised expectations in the second year of the Ken Murczek era at NT, the Mean Green will face its rival on Monday at 2 p.m. in Denton. As always, meangreensports.com will carry a free live webcast as well as live stats.
This season North Texas is 2-1 against teams from the Southland Conference, including wins over Lamar and UT Arlington. Sam Houston proved too much for the Mean Green in this weekend’s North Texas Invitational.
Sarah Willey led NT’s defensive efforts with 4.0 digs per set, earning North Texas Invitational All-Tournament team honors.
