BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The North Texas volleyball team is off to the program's best start since 1976 after splitting a pair of matches at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.

The Mean Green (5-2) swept Tennessee Tech (2-5) in the morning affair before falling 3-2 to Northwestern State (4-3) at 3 p.m. The 5-2 start is just behind the 1976 squad's 5-1-1 to begin the program's first ever season.

Kayla Saey and Rachelle Wilson earned All-Tournament honors. For Saey this is the second straight week she has made an all-tourney squad, taking MVP honors at the Jackson State Invite.

Amy Huddleston was unstoppable for the Mean Green all weekend. The senior outside hitter led NT in kills in each match, and notched 67 kills overall to move into seventh place in school history in career kills.

Sarah Willey was her defensive equivalent with 78 digs, including a 29 dig outing in the loss to Northwestern State.

The Mean Green volleyball team will be back in action next weekend at the Texas State Invitational. NT will face Alabama and Texas State on Friday, and Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.
