DENTON, Texas - The North Texas volleyball team couldn't overcome the Sam Houston State block, falling in four sets in North Texas Invitational opener on Friday.
NT (3-2) got 11 kills each from Melanie Boykins, Hallie McDonald and Eboni Godfrey, but 12 team blocks, including six from Haley Neisler, gave the Bearkats (5-0) the nod. Sam Houston hit .256 for the night, and forced 27 Mean Green attack errors.
The Mean Green committed 17 attack errors in the first and second sets combined and found itself in a 2-0 hole to Sam Houston. Setter Liz Powell entered the match in relief and dished 30 assists on the night, and led the Mean Green to a third-set win with .258 hitting in the frame.
The NT serve-receive was off its game, allowing eight SHSU aces. In North Texas' two losses the team has allowed 18 total aces. NT allowed just eight total aces in it three wins.
North Texas returns to action tomorrow against Oklahoma at 11 a.m. and Cincinnati at 7p.m. at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
