Mean Green Picks Up Split At Sam Houston Tourney

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (9/2/06) The North Texas volleyball team split a pair of matches Sunday defeating Radford and then falling to Louisiana Tech in the Sam Houston State Tournament.

One day removed from becoming North Texas’ all-time winningest volleyball coach, Cassie Headrick watched the Mean Green stay sharp in the early match, sweeping Radford 3-0.

The Mean Green had four players in double-digit kills including Brittney Gregory with 15, Catherine Coffey with a dozen, and Tara Hooser and Katy Prokof each with 11.

North Texas did not fair as well in the evening match as it was Louisiana Tech getting the win by a 3-1 margin.

The Mean Green dropped the first game before rallying to tie in the second, but the Bulldogs took hold in the final two to secure the victory.

Jessica Hulsebosch added 39 more digs to her resume in the loss, setting the school record for single-game digs for the third time in two days. Tara Hooser led the offensive attack with a team high 20 kills.

The Mean Green now stands at 4-4 on the season as they return home for a Tuesday match with TCU. It will be the first game at the North Texas Volleyball Complex.
