Mean Green Hit Road for Boston College Tournament
North Texas to Face Three New Opponents
DENTON - The North Texas volleyball team embarks on the first roadtrip of the 2017 season to compete in the Boston College Tournament. The Mean Green (2-1) face off against Bryant at noon Friday at the Power Gym.
The tournament participants include host school Boston College and Princeton, who kick off tournament action at 10 a.m. Friday. North Texas is scheduled to take on Princeton at 4 p.m. Friday and will close out the weekend against Boston College at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The tournament will mark the first matchup between the Mean Green and each of the three participating schools.
The Mean Green are coming off a three-set victory over Montana on Saturday night to clinch the North Texas Invitational title. North Texas placed three members on the all-tournament team, including MVP Amanda Chamberlain.
For her efforts, Chamberlain was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. She leads the team in kills (50), attack percentage (.575), block solos (3), block assists (14), and total blocks (17).
Match One: North Texas vs. Bryant (2-2, 0-0 NEC)
After starting the season 1-2 at the Titan Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., the Bulldogs bounced back to .500 with a midweek win over Quinnipiac at home. Erika Ward was named the NEC Freshman of the Week after averaging six digs per set in the Titan Tournament.
Match Two: North Texas vs. Princeton (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League)
The two-time reigning Ivy League champions begin their 2017 campaign at the Boston College Tournament. The Tigers return a trio of All-Ivy League selections in Jessie Harris, Maggie O'Connell, and Devon Peterkin.
Match Three: North Texas vs. Boston College (1-2, 0-0 ACC)
The Eagles got off to a slow start, dropping their first two matches at home before closing out the BC Invitational with a four-set win over UAB. Boston College is led on offense by Cat Balido and Sol Calvete, who have 32 and 26 kills, respectively.
