SAN MARCOS,Texas (8/25/06) The North Texas volleyball team was swept in two matches Friday, falling to Wyoming and USC as they opened the 2006 season at the Texas State Tournament.
Wyoming started off hot early in the day taking the match 30-18, 30-26 and 30-26 over the Mean Green. Tara Hooser paced the Mean Green with nine kills and five digs. Ashley Bass finished with 30 assists while Jessica Hulsebosch had 19 digs.
Wyoming finished the first game with 20 kills and no errors in posting a .645 attack percentage to get things started in the morning match. Three Cowgirls finished in double-digit kills, led by Rachel Smith with 15.
In the second match of the day the No. 14 USC Trojans took it 30-18, 30-17 and 30-18. North Texas never could get things going as they could only manage 30 kills as opposed to 53 for the Trojans. Three Trojans had at least a dozen kills.
Brittney Gregory had nine kills and four digs, and Katy Prokof finished with six kills and 10 digs for the Mean Green.
North Texas will try to even their record tomorrow when they finish the tournament with UT-Pan American and Texas State. North Texas is 3-1 against UT-Pan American under head coach Cassie Headrick.
The first match is slated for 11:00 a.m. and then a 7:00 p.m. start time when the Mean Green take on the host, Texas State.
