Volleyball To Host Green & White Scrimmage On Saturday

Aug. 19, 2015

DENTON - North Texas volleyball will host an intrasquad scrimmage at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, from the Mean Green Volleyball Center. The event will be free and open to the public.

Coming just seven days before the team officially opens the season, this weekend's scrimmage will allow fans to see what the group has been working on in the weeks and months leading up to the 2015 campaign.

Head coach Andrew Palileo will take the team through a handful of drills before splitting the 16-person roster into groups of two for the exhibition. The third year coach hopes that the scrimmage will serve as a warm-up for the Mean Green's season-opener against Winthrop on Saturday, Aug. 28, from Missouri's Tiger Invitational.

North Texas brings one of Conference USA's youngest rosters into the 2015 volleyball season. Captains Carnae Dillard and Amy Henard are the team's only upperclassmen, and seven newcomers join this year's squad.

The good news for the Mean Green is that the unit's obvious youth comes with experience. Three current sophomores saw significant starting roles with the team last season, and all but two starters return for 2015.

In all, North Texas hopes to put together a year that will get them into its first C-USA championship game. Last year, the Mean Green made it to the semifinal round after a fine effort that saw the team break records for best start (9-1), best finish (9-1) and overall win streak.

One thing is certain: Saturday's scrimmage could give us a glimpse of what to expect in the year ahead.
