DENTON - North Texas volleyball standout Carnae Dillard took Conference USA’s top preseason honor and the Mean Green was picked to finish fourth in 2015, the league announced on Thursday.

“This is a wonderful recognition for North Texas volleyball and our senior captain,” head coach Andrew Palileo said. “She is such a terrific student-athlete with an insatiable work ethic, and she's so humble that she would say this wouldn't be possible without her teammates.”

A first-team all-conference selection in each of her first three seasons and C-USA’s player of the year in 2014, Dillard enters the year with a chance to take her place as the best player to ever suit up for the Mean Green. The senior currently sits in second place in NT history with 1,640 kills, third all-time with 4,295 attacks, and sixth in school history with 1,031 digs.

Dillard’s dominance has been felt league-wide during her time in C-USA. A four-time league player of the week in 2014, Dillard is coming off a season that saw her lead the conference in kills and total points. Those numbers translate across the entire nation as she ended the season ranked second in double-doubles (20), third in kills per set (5.39) and points per set (5.9), fourth in attacks per set (13.21) and fifth in total kills (615) in the NCAA.

The announcement marks the third straight year that North Texas has been picked to finish fourth by the league’s coaches. Last season, the Mean Green put together a 22-10 overall record after falling to eventual champion WKU in the C-USA tournament’s semifinal round.

North Texas is picked to finish behind WKU, UTSA and Rice, while a fifth-ranked Florida Atlantic team trails the Mean Green to round out the top five. The program’s 2015 squad returns nine letterwinners, while the addition of seven newcomers makes North Texas one of the youngest teams in the league.

NT kicks off the 2015 campaign on August 28 from the Missouri Invitational, where North Texas will face Winthrop, North Dakota State and the hosting Tigers over a two-day span. The Mean Green will host its first home match on September 7 when UAB visits Denton and the North Texas Volleyball Center.
