Graduate One Of 14 To Receive Award
IRVING -- Former North Texas volleyball player Amy Henard was selected as one of 14 student-athletes to receive the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Award, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The conference annually awards the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarships to graduates as selected by Conference USA's faculty athletics representatives and approved by its Board of Directors. This is the ninth year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before he passed away in November 2008.
The two-time captain completed her North Texas career as one of the most decorated setters in program history. Her 3,914 assists rank second-most in program history, while her 1,156 assists in 2015 are the seventh-most in a single-season. Additionally, Henard is the lone North Texas volleyball athlete to record 3,500 assists and 1,000 digs in their career.
Henard was named to C-USA's All-Academic team three times and was one of 14 student-athletes to receive C-USA's 2015 Fall Spirit of Service Award.
She graduated from North Texas with a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in chemistry, while maintaining a 3.82 cumulative GPA. Henard is applying to the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, specializing in Medical Sciences.
