Volleyball Adds Three To Round Out 2015 Class
Two Denton Natives, One Transfer Make Up Latest Additions To Roster
DENTON - Andrew Palileo and the North Texas volleyball team added another three members to the 2015 class of newcomers. The additions include two Denton natives who will be staying close to home and a transfer student from the Big 12's Texas Tech University.
"I'm excited about the additions of Taylor, Alyvia and McKenzie as they will provide us with much-needed depth at each of their positions," Palileo said. "I also think they will fit right in with our team culture and will help us get better in the gym."
The latest members of the Mean Green roster will join nine returning letterwinners and four signees from the NLI early signing period. Together, the group will look to improve on one of the best seasons in recent memory as North Texas advanced to the Conference USA semifinal round and now-senior Carnae Dillard earned C-USA Player of the Year honors.
McKenzie Christopher - DS - Denton Guyer High School
Christopher joins the North Texas volleyball squad following a career with local Denton Guyer High School. While at Guyer, she was named to the 5-6A First Team during her senior season while playing a pivotal defensive role for a team that went three rounds deep in its first year of 6A action. Christopher can also take care of her business in the classroom as she was an academic all-state selection this season.
Palileo on McKenzie: "I've worked with McKenzie for the past two years through the [North Point Volleyball Club] team so she knows my expectations both on and off of the court. `Kenz' will have the opportunity to compete at the DS and libero positions, and I'm excited to see the next level for her."
Alyvia Palileo - S/DS - Denton Guyer High School
Alyvia Palileo is another athlete that will be keeping her talents close to home next year. The daughter of head coach Andrew Palileo, Alyvia was the team captain for a Guyer squad that compiled a 37-6 record before eventually falling to a No. 7-ranked Southlake Carroll team in the regional quarterfinals. She was also a two-time academic all-district selection and saw considerable action in the local club circuit as a part of the North Point Volleyball Club.
Palileo on Alyvia: "Alyvia has grown up in the gym and obviously I have seen her play a lot of volleyball. She did a great job setting for us over the last two years in club ball. I know her gym culture and leadership skills will be a great asset to our team."
Taylor Haskins - OH - Texas Tech University
Haskins joins the Mean Green following a year at Texas Tech where she was designated as a redshirt for the 2014-15 campaign. Before her time at Tech, Haskins was a force for the Harrison Hoyas in Kennesaw, Georgia. She reached the state semifinal round in each of her four seasons on the varsity squad, eventually finishing as a state runner-up in 2011 and 2012. Furthermore, Haskins was named as a 6A All-Georgia honoree from 2012-14.
Palileo on Taylor: "Taylor will be able to come in and compete right away. Although she redshirted at Texas Tech last year, being in a Big 12 practice all year will prove valuable in our gym culture. I am definitely looking forward to working with her."
