Mean Green Announces 2005 Volleyball Schedule

DENTON (5/30/05) -- The 2005 North Texas volleyball schedule will pit the Mean Green against opponents from 13 different conferences, features 12 home matches, and four non-conference tournaments that are highlighted by the 15th Mean Green Classic.

North Texas will open its season with two matches on August 26 at the Arkansas Invitational. The Mean Green will then compete at the Baylor Invitational on September 3 before hosting its first match four days later against Tulsa. The match against the Golden Hurricanes will be the first of four consecutive home outings for North Texas as it will host the Mean Green Classic September 9-10. Joining the Mean Green at the tournament will be Wyoming, Centenary and Prairie View A&M.

"We put this schedule together knowing that we will be tested early and throughout non-conference, but its also a schedule we feel will allow us to be competitive and build some momentum heading into conference play," said North Texas head coach Cassie Headrick.

NT will face four different opponents from Conference USA, two from the Mountain West Conference and one each from the SEC and Big 12 during the course of the season. Among the Mean Green’s non-conference opponents, four teams won at least 20 matches last year and nine recorded 17 or more victories. The schedule also features matches against metroplex-rival’s SMU (August 31 in Dallas) and TCU (September 27 in Fort Worth).

The Mean Green will play its final regular-season tournament September 16-17, participating in the Charlotte Invitational, and catch Northwestern State in a road match on September 20 before hosting Louisiana-Lafayette on September 23 in its first Sun Belt Conference match of 2005.

The regular season will finish with a match at Louisiana-Lafayette on November 12 and the Sun Belt Conference Tournament is slated for November 17-19 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
