DENTON, Texas - Behind a complete performance from Shelley Morton the North Texas volleyball team dispatched cross-town rival TWU, 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-12), in spring season action at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
The junior from Fallbrook, Calif., couldn't be stopped with a match-high 17 kills and three aces for a Mean Green squad coming off its first 20-win season since 2006. NT won the Sun Belt West Division title last year, and has found success this spring with multiple lineups.
"I think it's always good to compete against other teams, and I'm happy with what we did on the court tonight," said North Texas head coach Ken Murczek. "I can't thank TWU enough for giving us a tough match tonight. We were just lucky enough to stick a couple of runs on them thanks to our back line play. It looked like we were having fun out there, and that's exactly what I like to see."
Over 400 fans from NT and TWU packed the Mean Green Volleyball Center to see the matchup, which was webcast on MeanGreenSports.com
Aside from Morton, Lacy Reasons pounded the Pioneers with nine kills and Melanie Boykins added seven.
Your next chance to see North Texas at home will be in the regular season this fall. NT will take on UT Arlington on August 30th.
